Carlos is an immigrant from Brazil. He was born in Nacip Raydan, Minas Gerais and became a United States citizen in 1999. He is married and has two sons.
Carlos worked for many years in Massachusetts as a Union Representative. He is an entrepreneur and a volunteer community and political activist for several years. He is also a Notary Public.
He was employed by the Service Employees International Union - Local 254 – AFL-CIO Boston, MA for (8) eight years where he was hired as a member-organizer raising to the ranks of Business Agent and Senior Union Representative thereafter. He resolved hundreds of grievances and multiple arbitration on behalf of the membership. Carlos was a chief negotiator on several Collective Bargaining Agreements, including A) 2000’ Suffolk University Contract covering 65 Custodians and 20 trades’ personnel. B) 2001’Tufts University contract for 170 Janitors where he was the lead organizer and the chief negotiator.
Carlos is the owner and founder of America 24/7 Building Services, a successfully Janitorial and Painting Service Company and in addition he is the Owner of The Office of Total Assistance in Quincy where he assists the Brazilian and Spanish community with Translations, Notary Services, Income Tax, Immigration Filling, etc…
Carlos is a mentor to many new and old immigrants in the United States. He is committed to help everyone regardless of race, sex, religion and nationality. Carlos is a member of the Massachusetts Freemasons “Logia America” where he has served as the presiding Master for two consecutive years. He is a Notary Public. He serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) where he has served one year as the Treasurer; two years as Vice President and since November 2005 have been the presiding President. He is also on the Advisory Board of the Mass Care and member of the Quincy Zoning Board of Appeals. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Immigrant Center and the Brazilian American Association (BRAMAS).
In addition Carlos has assisted Colombian Leaders in Boston to create the American Columbus Association. (The first Colombian community organization committed to improve the direct lives of Colombians in Massachusetts.) Also he is a fomer member of the Brazilian Citizen Council of New England, a member of the Quincy Citywide Parents Council. Carlos has served as a member of Executive Board of Directors of the Greater Boston Labor Council becoming the first Brazilian and Latino to serve on that board.
Carlos loves politics. He was involved with the campaign that led to the election of Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva to the Presidency of Brazil. In addition he has worked voluntarily in the Robert Reich and Deval Patrick for governor campaign & Congressman William Delahunt campaign’s, Governor Weld and Cellucci campaigns and Al Gore and Sen. John Kerry campaigns for president of the United States. He is a member of the Ward II Democratic Committee where he serves as a Chair since 2004. He has spoken at numerous locations including Harvard University on “Brazilian Building Political Power in the United States.” He earned a Certificate for participating in a month long Legislative Seminar Course at the Massachusetts State House.
Education is a must for Carlos. He has earned a Certificate on Labor Management Relations from Quincy College; a Certificate on Labor Law & Labor Arbitration from the Labor Arbitration Institute; an Associates in Science Degree in Business Administration/Labor Management Relations from the Quincy College - Cum Laude; and an Bachelor of Arts Degree in Union Leadership and Administration from National Labor College, Silver Spring, MD - Cum Laude and commencement speaker.
Carlos Da Silva from time to time has been involved with raising funds for individuals and non-profit organizations.
